There’s a lot to be said for add-ons in Warcraft. They provide extra help that’s not given by the original game interface.
To make your life simpler you should use one of 2 windows programs to install new add-ons.

Below are the add-ons that most people use:
Play Enhancers:
[ Recount or Recap or Skada or Omen ] – Threat / damage meters
[ Decursive ] – Remove curses for people in your group
[ Spellflash ] – Shows you exactly which buttons you need to press and when (not just for spellcasters)!
[ GTFO ] – Makes LOUD noises if you’re standing somewhere you shouldn’t be!
[ Deadly Boss Mods ] – This tells you when things are likely to happen. Keeps track of phases and special abilities of the boss you are working on.
General Quality of life enhancers:
[ AdiBags or ArkInventory ] – Bag sorter
[ Pawn & Rating Buster & Reforginator ] – Add-ons that help you decide what equipment is good and suggests ways to reforge them.
[ Altoholic ] – Gives you the ability to search on all your characters and see what each character is wearing etc.
[ Gatherer ] – Gathering profession add-on
[ Atlas & Atlasloot ] – Ways to find out what equipment drops in dungeons or reputation items.
[ Auctioneer ] – Useful when selling things on the auction house.
[ Fishing Buddy ] – Helps to make fishing slightly less tedious.
[ Gnomeworks ] – Complete replacement for trade-skill window. It’s a bit complicated at first but really useful when you get the hang of it!
Hunter Specific:
[ _NPC Scan ] – Shows you any tameable special pet in your area.
[ Serenity ] – Gives you a nice visible focus bar and tracks your hunter cool-downs and shots.
